FRANK SHERMAN JR. WORKSHOP

The proposed Frank Sherman Jr. Workshop now under construction.

Frank Sherman Jr. Workshop, January 19, 2023

The Caroga Historical Museum has resolved to undertake the construction of a new exhibit building. The collection of Frank Sherman Jr.’s workshop and inventions will be relocated from the Arcade Building to the new building. The move will provide space for the addition of 13 newly acquired Sherman’s Arcade Memorabilia.

“Bloz-It”

This will allow the current Building to focus on the Arcade experience from the heyday of Sherman’s Amusement Park, while the new building will highlight Frank Sherman Jr.’s talents and ingenuity as an inventor.  For example, he created “Bloz-It,” an early snow blower,  90% of which is hand made. He also devised an early weedwacker.

September 22nd Groundbreaking

A ground breaking ceremony was held on September 22nd with representative of the Town, County, and the Fulton Montgomery Chamber of Commerce in attendance. The concrete foundation was completed on October 7. As documented by the photographs below, the workshop was constructed during the fall of 2022..

The new building is projected to cost about $70,000. We have submitted several grant proposals for funds to cover the bulk of that cost. But we still need community support to ensure the workshop becomes a reality and does justice to Frank Sherman’s legacy for Caroga. Contributions can be made to the Caroga Historical Museum, with “Frank Sherman Jr/ Workshop” in the memo line and sent to: P.O. Box 434, Caroga Lake, NY 12032.

You can also contribute through a Gofundme account dedicated to this project.
